Golden Horizon is my latest in trying to be more Impressionistic. It is also another of my purely imaginative works, meaning it doesn’t exist, it isn’t someplace I’ve ever been or seen. Just an idea that I tried to capture.

Of the sixteen works that I included in the book Male Figure Paintings, Tough Guy has become one of my favorites, at least favorite among the Impressionist style pieces. To date at least, Contemplation is my all time favorite.

Tough Guy is I think the best of the Impressionist style pieces I’ve done at least in terms of execution. I managed to completely avoid any blending and the brush strokes certainly are bold. And for once I didn’t use any black which is supposed to be one of the hallmarks of Impressionism. Interesting enough, Manet did use black and quite liberally.
