So after some delays and some false starts I’ve finished the design update. Snap shot to the left. Clean and simple with a nice slide show. Now all I have to do is get all the new art included.

No, I haven’t lost my focus on art. I’m still committed to spending more time and energy promoting my artwork. Part of the that effort is being spent on updating my art website. I haven’t changed it in quite a while and I never was all that crazy about the last design. Then I wasn’t as concerned with design as function. Now I’m hoping to do a little better on both.

I had briefly considered using a template but looking over what was available I was quickly reminded why I don’t care for templates. They all tend to look alike. A little color change here, maybe shift an element over there and that is supposed to be a different design. Having worked as a graphic designer I can appreciate how even a small change can make a huge difference in appearance. Still I think I’d rather just figure out a design on my own.

What I want is something simple without a lot of bells and whistles. The focus needs to be on the art and not design. Yet the design should still be visually pleasing and at least have enough visual impact to drawn someone in. A Flash based design is out. Far too difficult to maintain and Flash isn’t known for search engine optimization capatibility. I had considered actually writing some programming code and put it all in a database that would allow me to just update the database. That may happen eventually but initially I’ll probably just be doing it in good old HTML.

Right now, the image above is what I’m looking at. Not at all snazzy but clean and I hope will put all the emphasis on the art.

Back At It

From my lack of posts and website updates one might assume that I ceased to paint. That isn’t the case, although I have not been at my most productive over the last year or so. Many things have happened. I lost a job, spent 6 months looking for a new one and then finally landed one. Even now I don’t feel at all secure in the longevity of the new job.

Be that as it may, I have been working and there are new works which I haven’t written about or even offered. I’m in the process of making corrections, so feel free to spread the word. I’m back, or rather back to promoting my work.

I’ve also made changes to the blog in that I am allowing moderated comments. Meaning I have to approve them first. This isn’t to keep out the negative comments which I view as a learning tool. Rather it is to keep out the spam.

I never know quite what will happen with these abstracts. The last few that I’ve done I’ve been a bit more deliberate once shapes begin to emerge. With Incursion the sky had considerable brush work.

I called this one Incursion because of the intrusion of red/orange into the dominant blue and gray.

Recently I read an article on a blog stating that it was ok to use 1 or 2 images by another artist in a review without their explicit permission. Guess what kiddies, if you use an image, any image that you don’t own the copyright to without permission you are committing copyright infringement. It doesn’t matter what your purpose is. You are required to obtain permission first. If you don’t you could be sued for copyright infringement.
