Abstract Landscape – Incursion

I never know quite what will happen with these abstracts. The last few that I’ve done I’ve been a bit more deliberate once shapes begin to emerge. With Incursion the sky had considerable brush work.

I called this one Incursion because of the intrusion of red/orange into the dominant blue and gray.

Recently I read an article on a blog stating that it was ok to use 1 or 2 images by another artist in a review without their explicit permission. Guess what kiddies, if you use an image, any image that you don’t own the copyright to without permission you are committing copyright infringement. It doesn’t matter what your purpose is. You are required to obtain permission first. If you don’t you could be sued for copyright infringement.

Recession And Art

I suppose in many ways I’m very lucky. I’m not dependent upon art sales to make my living. Selling a painting or a print is like getting a bonus. It is extra money that I don’t count on to pay bills.

I’m not alone in the lack of sales. I know other artists who also report sales are slow or non-existent. Discretionary income has been reduced at all levels and art falls under the category of a discretionary purchase for just about everyone.

The question becomes what then does an artist do when no one is buying? The answer, keep painting, sculpting, keep creating art. If you are like me, you really don’t have any choice. When the muse taps my shoulder I can’t ignore her.

I’m lucky in another aspect, working in digital means aside from the electricity used, I don’t have to spend any money on supplies. Unless I need a new pack of nibs for my tablet pen that is.

Unleashed – Abstract Painting

This one is a little more deliberate in structure. Unleashed had a plan or at least a concept and a image in my mind of what I wanted to do. There are more intentional brush strokes, less of this piece was left to chance.

Dark Hills – A Digital Painting

So I’ve done yet another one and I’ve come to realize that I’m probably going to do a lot more of these pushers. There are just too much fun. Dark Hills is my latest digital painting and while it is an abstract landscape it doesn’t take a huge leap of imagination to see why I named it as I did.
